You Can Do (And Have) Everything You Want

you can do (and have) everything you want

The magic trick? You have to let yourself have it.

Do you want to be successful? Maybe you want to be a hijabi astronaut? Do you want to be an actress? A surfer? Do you want a lot of money? Or do you want to travel the world? Or maybe you just want to be confident enough to go to the beach (in your hijab). I'm telling you that, yes, you can do any of these, and not in the philosophical sense of 'we can all do what we want if we put our minds to it.' I'm saying you can go out and have whatever you want, like now.

No, I am not pulling your leg. I’ll let you in on the secret: you have to allow yourself to get it.

Now, most of you are like ‘really, that was it, obviously I allow myself because I want it to so bad.’

The thing is, you may consciously want something, and consciously try to get it, but your subconscious is probably holding you back. No matter what it is you say you want, there’s your subconscious not letting you have it. Confused? Let me explain.

I want to be successful (who doesn’t?), I would go out and find amazing opportunities, and then my crippling anxiety of being judged for wearing my hijab would always remain there in my subconscious and it had me turning away every amazing opportunity. Then I’d have the audacity to think ‘how come nothing amazing has happened yet?’

I was terrified of what people would say, I would think ‘Oh I can’t do that, I’ll be the only person in a hijab and everyone will stare.’ It is such toxic behavior, which will eventually end up taking over your life.

Whatever it may be that is subconsciously holding you back, you have to understand it. Ask yourself why you feel that way, and what you can do to make it better.

“Our conscious mind thinks it’s in control, but it isn’t. Our subconscious mind doesn’t think about anything, but is in control.” – Jen Sincero

This is what I mean by saying you need to let yourself have the things you want. It’s not as easy as it sounds, because doing so would mean slaying your dragons, and facing all the fears you’ve pushed so far back, you may not even remember all of them.

But I can tell you one thing, it’s so worth it.

You have to remember that every awesome, crazy amazing thing and opportunity will not be waiting for you in a ball of comfort and ease. Everything you want in life is going to be uncomfortable to get, but you have to allow yourself to go through that icky feeling of discomfort, so that you can truly get what you want out of life.

Getting what you want right now starts with understanding what’s holding you back, and putting out a vibe that tells the universe you’re ready to get it.

This will look different for everyone, for me it was signing up for a writing class that I otherwise would have never signed up for. I was so anxious, and sick at the thought of going, my thoughts were racing all over the place, thinking of every bad thing that could happen, and everything that could go wrong. I almost talked myself out of going to that first class (numerous times), but I went.

Do you want to know what happened?

It was amazing.

I was sitting in the train, on the way home from that first class and I marveled at the thought that I almost didn’t go. I was so upset that I had almost taken this opportunity away from myself.

I kept going, week after week, and every week was amazing, and had opened doors of new opportunities for me that I would have never guessed were available.

Every opportunity we miss is no one else’s fault but our own. We are the only things holding ourselves back from awesomeness. This all sounds cliché, but it’s the hard truth.

Think of it this way, everything you have ever wanted is right here, right now. Literally, it’s right here in this amazing sphere called earth, where it’s just waiting for you to come and get it. The question is, will you?

I recommend this amazing book that has helped me go out and grab every opportunity that is thrown my way called You Are A Badass by Jen Sincero.
